يُعدُّ (يُعتَبر) صيدُ الأسماك من أكثر المهن الّتي يَشتَغل بها الإنسانُ ليدير عيشَه خاصةً في المناطق الساحليّةِ أو المناطق المُحاطة بالبُحَيرات و الأنهار، بحيث تُشكّل لحومُ الأسماك واحدة من أهمّ مصادر الغذاء الّتي يَستفيد منه الإنسانُ في العالم. كما كانت الأسماك مصدرًا غذائيًّا مُهمًّا للإنسان في العصور القديمة، و قد وُجدت الكثيرُ من النُّقوش الحَجريّة القديمة لعصر الفَراعنة الّتي تَدلُّ على صَيدهم الأسماكَ و طريقة قيامهم به تَغذُّبهم عليها، إضافة إلى هذا لم يجد الانسانُ صعوبة في الحصول عليها!
تحوّلت مهنةُ صَيد الأسماك إلى رياضة مَحبوبة لَدى العديد من النّاس حيث يَبلغ من يُمارسونَها حوالي ملايين من النّاس. فهناك بعضُ النّاس حين يَذهبون إلى المناطق الّتي تُوجد فيها هذه الإمكانيّةُ يَشتَغلون بالصَّيد لكنّه بوسائط بسيطة؛ و تحوّلت طُرقُ الصَّيد على مرّ الزّمان و تعدّدت الطرقُ المُستخدَمة في صَيد الأسماك!
